Dr. Richard Baker, M.B.B.Chir., F.R.C.S.(Plast.), is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Division at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi. A UK-trained surgeon with over 22 years of experience, he specializes in hand and wrist surgery, trauma surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, and cosmetic procedures, including skin removal after weight loss. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and a Master of Arts (M.A. Cantab.) in Biological Anthropology in 2001.

Dr. Baker was awarded a research MD from the University of London in 2008 for his work on reducing post-surgical scarring and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (F.R.C.S. Plast.) in 2012. He completed specialist fellowships in hand and wrist surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals and reconstructive cosmetic surgery at the University Hospitals of Leicester. In the UK, he also maintained private practices at Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor and Spire Thames Valley Hospital in Berkshire.

He served as Clinical Lead of his department in 2020 before joining SSMC in October 2023. His clinical services include adult and pediatric hand surgery, joint replacements of the hand, cosmetic surgery, removal of skin lesions, and post-weight-loss body contouring procedures.
