Dr. Maria Borrelli

Dr. Maria Borrelli is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with 15 years of experience, who earned her medical degree from Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli before completing specialised training in ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and a PhD in Experimental Surgery. In 2011, she moved to Germany and was appointed Consultant at the University of Düsseldorf, where she later became Head of the Oculoplastic and Lacrimal Service. She has extensive expertise in managing lacrimal disorders, eyelid malpositions, eyelid tumours, and Thyroid Eye Disease (TED).

Her clinical and surgical practice also includes anterior segment conditions such as cataracts and corneal diseases, including lamellar and penetrating corneal transplants. Dr. Borrelli is experienced in treating oculoplastic conditions such as entropion, ectropion, ptosis, and congenital or acquired lacrimal stenosis. She also manages corneal pathologies including dystrophies and pterygium, as well as glaucoma.

Since 2023, she has served as a Trainer for the Oculoplastic Fellowship Programme of the Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft, contributing to the education of ophthalmology residents. An active researcher and speaker, she has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented at international conferences. In October 2025, she joined Mediclinic Middle East at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai Healthcare City.
